Cathedrals represent many of the most significant historic buildings in the country. The Wolfson Foundation has therefore funded repair to the fabric of these buildings over many years, including a joint programme with English Heritage between 2006-2008 under which some £6 million was awarded. More recently we funded repair to the historic fabric of English cathedrals through a joint programme administered by the Cathedrals Fabric Commission for England (CFCE), to which we committed £1.75 million.
Occasionally, we fund projects focused on the display of historic collections at cathedrals, where these collections are of exceptional historic significance. Applications for such projects should be made directly to us via the general historic buildings programme.
