The Wolfson Foundation has worked in partnership with the Art Fund since 1977, providing an annual grant for the acquisition or works of art by museums and galleries across the UK. This allows important works of art to remain in the public collection, or to be acquired from private ownership for the benefit of the public. During this period, we have contributed to the purchase of some 150 different works of art at over 50 organisations. Art supported includes everything from paintings and works on paper to sculpture and archaeological finds. Museums benefiting are nationwide, from Aberdeen to Penzance and from Aberystwyth to Middlesbrough.
Since 2014, the Wolfson Foundation has demonstrated its ongoing commitment to supporting British museums and galleries through its contribution to the Art Fund's landmark programme the New Collecting Awards. Through this programme, curators from museums throughout the UK have the opportunity to pursue new avenues of collecting and research, developing both their curatorial expertise and their museum's own collections.
Our funds are administered directly by the Art Fund and more information is available via their website. General enquiries should be directed to the Art Fund in the first instance.
Where our funds form part of a grant from the Art Fund toward acquisition of a work of art, the host museum or gallery will be informed of our association with the award.
