The Wolfson Foundation has been supporting RNIB since the late 1950s, soon after the Foundation's inception, with grants for various projects at locations around the UK. In June 2012 the Trustees of the Wolfson Foundation granted £50,000 for the new RNIB Cymru South Wales Centre of Excellence in Cardiff.

By establishing their Centre of Excellence in a central location in Cardiff, RNIB Cymru are now ideally located to serve the 100,000 people living in Wales with serious sight loss. The visitors can now enjoy a Centre that is fully compliant with RNIB’s Visibly Better building design standards.

The facilities provide a host of opportunities for the visually impaired including: testing and buying products for the home, meeting with support or activity groups and use of the IT training suite. The building also provides the organisation with space to continue its advocacy and campaigning.

The South Wales Centre of Excellence is an example of partnership working, providing a shared home for RNIB Cardiff and Cardiff institute for the Blind.
